Eprogen, Inc. Signs OEM & License Agreement with
Beckman Coulter for Proteomics Technology
Darien, IL and Fullerton, CA - September 26, 2002 - Eprogen, Inc. today announced it has signed an exclusive licensing and OEM agreement for Beckman Coulter Inc., (NYSE: BEC) to become the exclusive distributor of
ProteoSep, Eprogen's patented protein discovery chemistry and software platform. Designed to advance the field of
proteomics, ProteoSep will be marketed worldwide with Beckman Coulter's liquid chromatographic instrumentation.
ProteoSep was developed to address the need for improved analytical techniques in high-resolution protein analysis and
was recently named an R&D 100 Award winner as one of the most significant technologies to reach the commercial
market in 2001. By integrating ProteoSep into an automated and standardized instrumentation solution, Beckman Coulter
seeks to provide valuable and novel information to academic or industrial researchers in life science environments who
are working on the separation and characterization of proteins.
"This partnership marks the beginning of our initiative in the field of proteomics," said George Bers, president of
Beckman Coulter's life science division. He continued, "It is a key element in our systems biology strategy and paves the
way for the development of a new system that will completely automate the process for 2-dimensional protein mapping."
"Working with a life science leader like Beckman Coulter affords us an excellent opportunity to build on the enthusiastic
response that we have received for ProteoSep from those involved in proteomics-based research," said Bruce Grotefend,
president and chief executive officer of Eprogen. "This agreement strongly supports our business goal of establishing
ProteoSep technology as the proteomics platform of choice for those involved in screening potential new drug candidates
and evaluating new approaches to disease therapy".
Eprogen will continue to develop and utilize the ProteoSep platform in support of its Protein/Drug Discovery Services
business.
